The Sindh Assembly has demanded the federal government to send back the illegal immigrants currently residing in the province. The assembly erupted in tension after a member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Marvi Rashdi, referred to Bihari’s as illegal immigrants, which sparked a strong reaction from members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), leading to a heated atmosphere in the house.
During a spirited debate on the issue of illegal immigrants, the atmosphere in the provincial assembly became charged and contentious.
PPP member Heer Sohoo presented a motion of suspension of rules against illegal immigrants. During the debate, PPP’s Marvi Rashdi stated that Afghans, Bengalis, Burmese, and Bihari’s consider Sindh as an international orphanage.
Rashdi’s remarks provoked a strong protest from MQM members, resulting in significant disruption.
After the debate on the motion of suspension of rules concluded, the assembly unanimously demanded that the federal government send illegal immigrants back to their countries of origin. Sindh’s Interior Minister, Ziaul Hassan Lanjhar, stated that the province cannot bear the burden of illegal immigrants.
