MQM's Khawaja Warns Govt: Honor Agreements or We Will Exit

Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan, a prominent leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), has issued a stern warning, stating that if MQM’s agreements are not honored, there is no point in remaining in the government. “Everyone remembers the poor when power is sought, but once in power, only problems are remembered,” he underlined.

Supreme Court Hearing on Fake Domiciles and PRCs

A hearing took place at the Supreme Court Karachi Registry on a petition against obtaining government jobs through fake domiciles and Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs). The Additional Advocate General requested more time to submit a response, but the court observed, “What was supposed to take 30 days has taken you two and a half years.”

The court directed that a report from the committee formed to review domiciles and PRCs under the Sindh High Court’s orders be submitted. It questioned whether the interim report had fulfilled the petition’s purpose. On the Additional Advocate General’s request, the hearing was postponed to the next session.

Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan’s Fight for Justice

MQM leader Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan initially filed a petition against fake domiciles and PRCs in the Sindh High Court, which was dismissed. Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court Karachi Registry, he said, “I filed this case against fake domiciles eight years ago and raised the issue in the Sindh Assembly. Today marks the fourth hearing in the Supreme Court.”

He added, “We, too, are dealing with a history of delays, but we still have hope for justice. Jobs are being reallocated for grades 1 to 4, and the entire province is being treated unfairly.”

Accusations of Criminal Negligence

Izhar-ul-Hassan accused the Sindh government of criminal negligence, stating, “The Sindh High Court directed the formation of a committee to address the issue, but the government is resorting to delaying tactics. For two years, government lawyers have been seeking adjournments, and they’ve done it again today. Who knows when the bench will return to Karachi?”

He criticized the delay in the committee’s report, which was supposed to be submitted in 30 days. “”No one has inquired about the committee’s progress, even after two years,” he said.

Long History of MQM Agreements

If the agreements are not honored, there is no point in staying in the government. When power is sought, the poor are remembered, but after assuming power, the problems take center stage.”

Izhar-ul-Hassan further remarked, “When agreements are made, the biggest stakeholders act as guarantors. We have always taken the democratic path to enter the government.”

When asked about the change of Sindh’s governor, he quipped, “The person who thought of replacing the governor of Sindh has left this world.”
