Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, head of the Awam Pakistan Party, declared that election rigging is the sole reason behind all the country’s problems.
Addressing the Legal Community over Election Rigging
While addressing lawyers at the Faisalabad District Bar, Abbasi expressed gratitude for the invitation. He noted that the questions raised by the lawyers are the same ones being asked across Pakistan. He emphasized that a select few in the country are becoming wealthier. Meanwhile, the constitution and the law have lost their significance.
The Importance of Rule of Law and Impact of Election Rigging
The former Prime Minister stressed that without the rule of law, the economy cannot flourish. He recalled, “Fifty-three years ago, we lost half of our country because the mandate of East Pakistan was not respected.” Abbasi added that countries where elections are rigged and the public’s opinion is not respected cannot prosper.
Criticism of Secret Amendments
Abbasi also criticized constitutional amendments made in secrecy during the night. He highlighted the lack of transparency and accountability in the political system.
A Call for Reform
Abbasi’s remarks underscore the urgent need for electoral reforms and the restoration of the rule of law. This is essential to ensure the country’s progress and prosperity. He called for a collective effort to address these issues and build a fair and just society.
