Addressing Critical Karachi Water and Sewerage Infrastructure Issues

The Supreme Court’s nine-member task force found that water in 83.5% of Sindh’s districts was unsafe for drinking. The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) emphasized the alarming pollution levels in Karachi, with 90.7% of water samples collected being deemed unsafe for drinking due to high turbidity levels and the presence of coliform bacteria, including E. coli.

Urgent Need for Clean Water

Senior PCRWR Research Officer Murtaza pointed out the dire need for improved water infrastructure, noting that the presence of E. coli bacteria indicates a dangerous mixing of sewage and water supply lines. This project’s implementation is crucial for addressing these urgent public health concerns.

A Brighter Future for Karachi Water and Sewerage Infrastructure

This significant investment marks a pivotal step towards ensuring safe and clean drinking water for Karachi’s residents and improving the city’s overall sanitation system. With the World Bank’s support and collaborative efforts from the Government of Pakistan and private sector investments, Karachi is set to witness a dramatic transformation in its water and sewerage infrastructure.
