Following the assassination of Hamas political wing leader Ismail Haniyeh at his residence, various political leaders in Pakistan have expressed their reactions.
Maulana Fazlur Rahman’s Condemnation
Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), expressed deep sorrow and regret over the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, leader of the political wing of Hamas.
Maulana Fazlur Rahman stated that he shares the grief of Ismail Haniyeh’s family and the Palestinians. He asserted that the struggle for Palestine’s freedom will not end with Ismail Haniyeh’s martyrdom. He recalled meeting Haniyeh, who was filled with the spirit of martyrdom.
He further stated that the sacrifices of Ismail Haniyeh and his family will not be in vain and that resolutions will be presented in assembly sessions to acknowledge his services.
PPP Leader Sherry Rehman’s Statement
Senator Sherry Rehman, a leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, remarked that Israel is spreading war instead of stopping it and is not serious about negotiations and ceasefire.
She stated that by assassinating Ismail Haniyeh, Israel sent a message that no one can stop them.
PTI Leader Fawad Chaudhry’s Reaction
Fawad Chaudhry, a PTI leader and former federal minister, said that Palestine’s history is filled with sacrifices, and the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh’s family marks a new chapter in the history of sacrifices written in blood.
PML-N Leader Mushahid Hussain Syed’s Statement
Mushahid Hussain Syed, a leader of PML-N, noted that the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh increases the risk of escalating the conflict.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman’s Reaction
Reacting to Ismail Haniyeh’s martyrdom on social media platform X (Twitter), Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman stated that Ismail Haniyeh’s stand, migration, and martyrdom were for Allah. He bravely faced the world’s most oppressive forces, and the lion of Allah, Ismail Haniyeh, has succeeded.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman noted that Ismail Haniyeh first sacrificed his family for the cause of Allah, and now he too has become a traveler to paradise. Martyrdom is not the end of a Muslim’s life but the beginning of a life filled with comfort.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader added that Israel and its patrons will have to pay the price for this oppression. The Israeli action has plunged the entire region into a new ordeal, making it clear that the war will no longer be confined to Gaza.
He questioned whether the rulers of the Islamic world will still keep their eyes closed and continue to silently support Israel, asking if the time has come to cut off the hand of the oppressor.
Liaquat Baloch’s Statement on Ismail Haniyeh’s Martyrdom
In an interview with Aaj News, Jamaat-e-Islami Vice President Liaquat Baloch stated that the news of Ismail Haniyeh’s martyrdom is a shock. He asserted that the martyrdom will not end the struggle for Palestine’s freedom.
The Jamaat-e-Islami Vice President emphasized that the sacrifices of Ismail Haniyeh and his family will not go in vain, noting that many of Haniyeh’s family members had been martyred. He called the assassination in Iran a major conspiracy, stating that it will not demoralize the Palestinians but will create a new wave in the Islamic world.
He expressed confidence that the conspiracy against Iran and the Islamic world will fail and that the Islamic world must awaken now.
Jamaat-e-Islami to Arrange Funeral Prayers in Absentia for Ismail Haniyeh
According to sources, Jamaat-e-Islami will arrange funeral prayers in absentia for Ismail Haniyeh. The prayers will be held at the party’s sit-in, with the timing to be announced soon.
Sources also mentioned that due to Ismail Haniyeh’s martyrdom, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman’s press conference has been postponed, and he has gone to the Palestinian embassy for condolences.
Shaukat Yousafzai’s Expression of Grief
Senior PTI leader Shaukat Yousafzai expressed grief over the martyrdom of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Shaukat Yousafzai remarked that Israeli aggression has severely impacted global peace. He called Israel a terrorist state and urged the USA and Europe to decide whether they will support terrorists.
He added that Ismail Haniyeh sacrificed his entire family for Palestine’s freedom, and no Islamic country can feel safe with the presence of a terrorist like Israel. He called for all Islamic countries to devise a joint strategy.
The PTI leader also stated that the attack on Ismail Haniyeh on Iranian soil is a significant test for Iran. He noted that Israeli aggression has sabotaged all efforts for a ceasefire, putting the world at a new risk.
