Judiciary Under Political Pressure
The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem, communicated his interests on the condition of the legal executive following the 26th Amendment. He claimed that the amendment has placed the judiciary and judges under the control of political rulers, further eroding justice for the common man.
In his statement from Lahore, Hafiz Naeem lamented the plight of the poor, who are unable to access justice amidst millions of pending cases.
Call for Protests and Grassroots Mobilization
Hafiz Naeem warned the government to reduce electricity tariffs or face widespread protests. He reaffirmed that demonstrations would continue until public grievances are addressed. Urging his party workers to prepare for a major call to action, he announced the formation of grassroots committees in neighborhoods.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also disclosed plans to launch a movement in favor of farmers starting December 25, demanding that the government impose taxes on feudal landlords while providing relief to small-scale farmers.
Criticism of Anti-Public Policies
Hafiz Naeem accused the government of failing to adopt people-friendly policies. He emphasized that lowering electricity tariffs is essential to alleviate the public’s hardships.
While addressing the media in Faisalabad, Hafiz Naeem pointed out the worsening economic situation. He highlighted the closure of industries and the rise in unemployment as direct consequences of high electricity costs.
Government’s Claims vs. Ground Reality
Hafiz Naeem also took issue with the Interior Minister’s assertions on contracts with IPPs. He argued that inflation remains uncontrolled despite the government’s assurances. According to him, the dire economic conditions are pushing the working class further into poverty.
