The student movement has succeeded in getting its main demand accepted, and Professor Muhammad Yunus will lead the interim government. Army Chief Waqar Uz Zaman has stated that the situation in the country is improving, and things will return to normal within three to four days. He mentioned that the interim government will take the oath by Thursday night upon Muhammad Yunus’ return.
Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus has urged the public to remain calm and prepare for the reconstruction of the country. On the other hand, the dismissed Intelligence Chief Major General Ziaul Ahsan has been arrested while attempting to flee the country.
According to Bangladeshi media, Ziaul Ahsan was arrested from the plane and transferred to Dhaka Cantonment. The newly appointed police chief of Bangladesh has apologized for the behavior of officers during the recent violent protests and expressed a commitment to conducting an “impartial” investigation into the deaths.
The leader of the main opposition party in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, has urged her supporters to remain patient in the current situation of the country in a video message.
She said, “No destruction, no revenge. Let’s establish a society based on love, peace, and knowledge.”
According to details, in his address on television, the Bangladeshi Army Chief mentioned that they are working on restoring the police force.
They are collaborating with the heads of the Air Force and Navy. General Waqar Uz Zaman said that all personnel of the armed forces are currently deployed across the country.
He mentioned that he has spoken to the interim government’s head, Muhammad Yunus, and the military leaders have also had discussions with student leaders, political parties, and the President.
Under the leadership of Dr. Yunus, Bangladesh’s interim government will take the oath today.
According to Bangladeshi media, President Muhammad Shahabuddin will administer the oath to the new interim government, which will initially consist of approximately 15 members.
Local media reports that the oath-taking ceremony will take place tonight at 8 PM at the Darbar Hall in Dhaka, with 400 people expected to attend.
Local media further reports that an interim government is being formed in Bangladesh after 17 years. The students proposed the idea of appointing Dr. Yunus as the head of the interim government.
It is important to note that President Muhammad Shahabuddin dissolved the parliament on Tuesday, and now advisors for the interim government are likely to be selected from civil society and other sectors.
The official list of members included in the interim government has not yet been finalized.
It should be noted that Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country last Monday after a month of public protests, after which the military took control and announced the formation of an interim government.
