Special Police Force Established for Safe Commute on Parachinar Road

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken a significant step to ensure the safety of Parachinar Road in Kurram tribal district by establishing a special police force. This initiative includes recruiting 399 personnel, setting up temporary security posts initially, and transitioning to permanent ones for long-term protection.

Key Cabinet Decisions

During the 19th provincial cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur in Peshawar, several crucial measures were discussed and approved:

  1. Helicopter Services for Kurram Residents:
    To ease mobility issues, helicopter services transported 220 people over two days. Additionally, approximately 10 tons of essential medicines were delivered to Kurram.
  2. Food and Financial Aid:
    The government distributed subsidized wheat and provided compensation for losses incurred by residents due to unrest.
  3. Action Plan for Parachinar Road:
    The cabinet approved establishing a special police force, which will recruit 399 officers to secure Parachinar Road. Temporary security posts will be operational initially, transitioning to permanent ones.
  4. Addressing Sectarian Tensions:
    Social media accounts advancing partisan contempt will be designated by a committed FIA cell. Multiple peace talks and agreements between conflicting groups are underway to resolve disputes.
  5. Illegal Arms Crackdown:
    The cabinet decided to collect all illegal weapons and dismantle unauthorized outposts by February 1. The Home Department will set up a dedicated desk for issuing arms licenses based on necessity.

Chief Minister’s Stance on Peace and Governance

Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur emphasized that the Kurram issue is a local dispute rather than a terrorism concern. He assured residents of the government’s commitment to peace and clarified that no armed groups would be allowed to possess heavy weapons.

Additional Cabinet Approvals

  • Relief for Minority Communities:
    The cabinet allocated PKR 40 million as a Christmas gift for 80 churches, with each receiving PKR 500,000. Christian employees were also given advance salaries.
  • Infrastructure Development:
    Approvals included:
    • PKR 30 billion for debt management.
    • PKR 30 crore for D.I. Khan Girls Cadet College.
    • Public-Private Partnership for constructing the 365 km Peshawar-D.I. Khan Motorway.
  • Tourism Support:
    Loans up to PKR 3 million will be provided to locals in tourist-heavy districts like Swat, Chitral, and Mansehra to promote community-based lodging.
  • University and Education Grants:
    Funds were allocated to improve infrastructure, faculty recruitment, and pension payments for public sector universities.
