If PTI had held a rally in Islamabad yesterday, another incident like May 9th would have been blamed on us: Imran Khan

The founder of PTI Imran Khan mentioned that if they had held a rally yesterday, there was a fear of facing a situation similar to May 9th again.

While speaking to journalists in Adiala Jail, one journalist asked Imran Khan, “Is everything okay? You seem drenched in sweat, and your entire shirt is soaked.” He also inquired about Azam Swati’s sudden meeting with Imran Khan at 7 PM the previous day, despite not having met him earlier.

In response, Imran Khan explained, “This shirt is thick and warm, and the color contributes to the sweating.” He further mentioned that Azam Swati informed him about the sensitive issue of Khatm-e-Nabuwwat (Finality of Prophethood) for which religious groups were protesting in Islamabad. Due to the risk of unrest, they decided to postpone the rally in Islamabad. If the rally had taken place yesterday, there was a fear of facing another situation like May 9th.

Continuing his remarks, the former Prime Minister stated that the judicial inquiry into the earlier May 9th incident has not yet been conducted. He added that if permission was granted for the rally and attempts were made to stop it, the responsibility would fall on the government. He emphasized that this is a matter of the court’s credibility; the court grants permission, but the administration cancels it.

Imran Khan also mentioned that he has instructed his party not to tolerate any obstacles on September 8th. He stated that this was the last time they postponed the Islamabad rally and instructed the party leadership to meet before September 8th and decide when to protest if the Supreme Court’s decision is not implemented. He urged the party not to back down if anyone tries to stop them this time.

During the conversation, a journalist asked about the response from the other side regarding General Faiz’s trial, to which Imran Khan replied that he is the head of the country’s largest party and is calling for an open trial. He said, “You are accusing me of conspiring with Faiz for the May 9th incident. I started this party from scratch and have been fighting within the Constitution for 28 years. If Faiz was involved in May 9th, then conduct an open trial.”

He added, “If the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report had been implemented, there would be democracy in the country today.”

Imran Khan stated that the issue is not military-related or a secret international matter. He emphasized that if the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report had been implemented, the country would not have seen three martial laws, nor would there be an undeclared martial law today. He described May 9th as an attack on democracy and said he is demanding a commission to ensure such a mistake is not repeated.

Another journalist asked Imran Khan about the message he sent to Azam Swati late at night and who delivered it. Smiling, Imran Khan declined to answer.

Later, a journalist asked about an audio recording of his sister, in which she claimed that Imran Khan had not ordered the rally to be postponed and that party leaders were postponing it in his name. Imran Khan acknowledged that the entire party was upset and angry about the postponement of the rally. He said, “I also believe the rally should not have been postponed. It should have taken place, but we postponed it only to avoid unrest. However, now, no matter what, we will hold rallies in every district.”

Another journalist inquired whether the federal government sent a message to him in jail or if someone else warned him that the situation outside could worsen. The former Prime Minister replied that he has not had any communication with the government regarding any “Form 47.” He said, “Whenever they fear that PTI has had any discussions with the establishment, they immediately recall May 9th.”

He also mentioned that Nawaz Sharif has his backpack ready for London, with only essential items left to pack. He said this is all happening in connection with Chief Justice Faiz Isa’s extension. Two games are being played: if they cannot extend Faiz Isa’s tenure, they will try to bring in their person by influencing seniority from within. Imran Khan stated that neither of these scenarios is acceptable to them, and if they proceed with such actions, there will be widespread protests across the country.

Another journalist asked if it was true that “angels” met with him last night, leading to sudden inside information. The PTI founder responded that whenever there is turmoil within the PML-N, it indicates that they suspect PTI has had discussions with the establishment. He reiterated that he had not communicated with the government about the rally and that Azam Swati had informed him about the potential unrest, leading to the decision to postpone the rally. He highlighted that PTI is the only party not being granted permission to hold a rally in Islamabad.
