Sheikh Hasina Wanted to Address the Nation but Couldn’t: Bangladeshi Newspaper Dhaka Tribune
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed left the official residence, Banga Bhaban, at 2:30 PM local time after receiving an ultimatum from Army Chief General Waqar Uz Zaman. She departed from the Prime Minister’s House in a military helicopter, having been given a 45-minute deadline to leave.
The Bangladeshi newspaper Dhaka Tribune reported that Sheikh Hasina Wazed wanted to address the nation but was not given the opportunity to do so. It was reported that she has gone to the Indian state of West Bengal, which borders Bangladesh.
Before leaving for India, Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana were moved to a safe location by the military. After her departure, thousands of people stormed her official residence and broke into it. Across Bangladesh, members of the student movement are celebrating their victory.
According to the news agency, Sheikh Hasina Wazed attempted to record a speech before being moved to a safe location.
The news agency stated that Sheikh Hasina Wazed was not given the chance to record her speech.
